Idol Grousing, Paris Trawling, and Memes: Just another day in my blobosphere
Okay all of you who are here for less than 30 seconds and then leave…Stay long enough to throw your 2 cents in on my blog wrap. You know, the skin — the theme. This whole blue tree thing. Just leave a simple “like it” or “hate it” or “who cares” in the comments. Call it a random act of kindness and put me out of my misery so I can start shopping for another one. Do it. Come on — it will only take 15 seconds of the thirty you are here.
Okay, commercial over. Now onto the real business of Wednesday and what really matters…
- Yes, yesterday was weigh-in day on my Phoodplan, and guess what? I’m within 1 lub. of that magic mark that I’m trying to get past. The one that is so symbolic — the ten lubs. lost mark. The mark that will let me take on the next 10 lubs. And then the next. And then the next. Until September, remember? So I’m averaging one pound a week which is only half of what I said I was going to do. Clearly, many of you are in a more serious league than me and my lubs. Plus, my VBF ditched me. And that food blog I have. But I’ll take even one lub a week, because by September, that’s a lotta lubs.
- American Noodle is cruising into its end with about the speed of a ‘64 VW bus cruising up to the gas pump on fumes. Seeing Barry Gibb brought back some great memories of much younger days, but who is his dentist, and why don’t his bottom teeth work? Has he always had that shuh-shuh thing going on when he talks? Or did he forget to remove his Invisaligns? The Blakester was falsetto-ly awful. Thin, whiney, beep-beep-beepin’ his way along — and clearly doing it because everyone encouraged him last week. Too much of a bad thing. He’s off. He has to be. Lakeesha will get the sympathy vote. Yes, she can sing, and she is looking very good. How much weight has she lost since she started? More than me! Yes — she’ll get the votes. You watch. Jordin will walk away with the whole thing. It will be the whole idea of “young, gorgeous, and bubbly amazon vote.” Melinda — who is perfect — lapses into that low Louis Armstrong gravelly thing each time she sings, and it ages her. You guys have figured out America isn’t for anyone past 25, right? So there you have it. And you heard it here. Favorite this page and I’ll collect my earnings in a few weeks.
- It’s really and truly difficult to ignore what’s going on with Miss Paris when the local fishwrap puts her in the “Public Eye” column on the back of the front page. That’s about as much celeb reading as I can fit into my truly packed days. And for two whole days, she’s been smack in the middle column. Even worse? I’m now going to be forced to trawl through a Google search to find her website where her fans have supposedly started a petition to have the Guvvah-nadder pardon her for her “beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives.” Huh? I’m thinking that reading trashy romance novels would at least add some dimension of interest to mundane lives, but you do have to be able to read, so that could pose a problem. Oh, and there aren’t glossy photos, either. Or beauty tips. Or hair-dos. Sigh. Kind of like life without Sanjaya-man-isto-buddy, huh?
- Meme. Yes. Another meme. Thankfully this one is very, very easy, so that means in my brainless state after talking about Miss Gonna-Look-Great-In-Stripes, even I can do this meme. I was tagged by laketrees who has an amazing site that showcases her gift as an artist. Take some time to look at her creations, which are beautiful. The meme started at Christy’s Coffee Break which it seems everyone in the bloggo-verse, their dogs, and cows are linked to — most likely because she doesn’t blather on about nonsense every day like I do — well, not every single day. But some. Okay! A lot. And you know how memes work, right? If I get tagged, then so do you. But it’s short, so have some fun with it, and pass it along. It will only take 5 minutes. Really. And don’t forget to put in the links — which is really what takes so long.
- “In the Spotlight” Meme…
Are You a Spiritual Person?
I am one of those people who gets my spiritualness from my family, pets, and yes, everyone — nature. I’m a total tree-hugger.
What Makes Your Blog Unique?
When you click on my blog, it’s kind of like eating one of those chocolate covered candies — You never know what you’re gonna get. Sometimes you’ll like it and keep eating — or reading, and sometimes, you just have to spit it out because it’s completely revolting — or not anything you’re interested in reading. Right? But keep reading, because I’m worth it, you know? And I’d pass on the chocolate.
What Are Your Feelings on the “Blog Popularity” Issue?
There’s an issue about it? What issue? Jeez, am I going to have to do another search besides the one about Mizz Saving the Mundane Masses one Drink at a Time? Ahem…if blogularity is about some people liking some blogs more than others, it sounds like life and well, really a bit like junior high. But only girls. Not boys. They don’t whine.
When Did You Start Blogging?
Almost two months ago. I have twins, but they’re fraternal. I have a third in the works, but it’s trying to decide what to be when it grows up, and I’m dancing between the twins as fast as I can, so as soon as I figure out how balance the third on my head, I’m good to go. I’ll keep you posted on that one.
Congrats to the following bloggers who I try very hard to visit regularly — a few times a week. Their blogs are all very different, and I can’t always remember how I discovered them, but I enjoy reading what they have to offer — yes, usually all the way to the end, and then respond to let them know I’m there. So you’re tagged:
A Grown Azzed Woman who I found a couple of weeks ago. She’s got an interesting spin on being frugal that I should pay attention to a bit more closely. Besides, she’s hilarious.
Absolutely Bananas who is running for Hottest Mommy Blogger, BTW, so vote for her. And her kid just glued their couch, so feel very sorry for her while you’re at it. My dog licks my couch. And I complain?
Suburban Oblivion whose writer’s voice sort of washes over you when you read her posts about life, kids, and stupidness. She says so much in very little space while I take up yards of cyberspace everytime I sit down — and that wouldn’t be directly related to the size of my butt. Okay?
Temporarily Me who I also found recently and who tells it like it is with little or no fuss. I need to practice this — seriously. Plus — I want to know who did her banner because it’s terrific. Oh, and since I’m a complete brain fart — I left her off this list originally even tho I let her know I was tagging her. What a complete dork — right? Sorry, Sam. Really.
So go forth and meme-i-fy others with your special touch.

First to the question of your new blog wrap- I love it! Love the tree… very peaceful and minimalist. And I also like the color selection. The only thing I noticed is the light gray (used for the tagline under title and dates) is almost inivisible on my laptop monitor… just so ya know…
Second, thanks for the plug!! and for the meme tag… this looks like a fun one!
oh, and as for american noodle, I think I’m really done watching, since instead of watching last night I went to bed, and I have no desire to watch the Tivo’d version today. I guess i’m just so. over. it. Maybe there’s hope for me after all.

What does the tree & the bench symbolize to you? A quiet moment pondering life, or something else?
With a short amount of time to think about it, I see you as having more “umph”, a visual with more impact.

Is this the meme you’ve tagged me with? I don’t see me listed there? *confused* LOL, what am I missing?
As for the template, I like it. It’s simple, peaceful and easy to navigate!

Hey Jenny, Thanks for weighing in on the tree and the kudos for the lubs. I’m working on it. And yah, I know about the stoopid grey writing. I gotta fix the font and color at least. Sheesh. Thats gonna be interesting. Cross your fingers.
Hi Ritzy. Yes, you know me well. Matilda the Hun is about right. The tree is freakin’ lucky all the leaves aren’t chewed off yet. I’m shopping.
Hey Sweetness. How nice that you talked to my blob. I feel famous and all mushy now. Really. You know I like trees, too. And blue. *sigh*
Hi Deb! Thanks for stopping by with your move and all. I like the clean look, too, but there just needs to be a bit of maniacal around the edges or something. And thanks on the congrats. I’m slow, but hopefully sure. Secret? Feh. A little bit here and a little bit there. I do eat a LOT of veggies, fruit, and whole grains. I always eat breakfast. I eat smaller portions now with no seconds. I rarely eat packaged stuff like chips, cookies, or candy. And I think most importantly, I don’t do without the things I really love. The moderation is HUGE because then you just crave what you aren’t eating. Of course September is a very long way away.

I love the blue tree…and the purity of all the white…minimal…yes…..but you can never go wrong with minimal…..I have to tone mine down…I think…because I’m a minimalist and super neat freak IRL all the clutter ends up on my blog!!!!
Have a great day!!!! Kim

I think the tree and the bench suggest you sit and think this stuff up. I happen to know you have it all stored in your brain and when you sit you just pump it out. it is spontaneous and funny. Sometimes over my head when you get serious. If i want serious, i will listen to the NEWS. I would enjoy a header more like your personality, LOUD ans PROUD

I at first read your response to the meme as
“I am one of those people who gets my spiritualness from my family pets”
god bless the comma but it gave me pause. I was thinking, “well that is certainly a different angle”.
blogularity sound like …something to do with the toilet.
This theme is looking good.
I actually prefer white and simple and is comfortable to read.
Bloggers are very adhd, but staying thirty second is better then staying thirty minutes, out clicking on every link and not saying anything. Make one wonder who is spying on you.

I like the “skin.” It’s Forrest Gump (the graphic) meets Andy Warhol (your profile pic).

Kelly, I think you are headed in the right direction. Knowing my style you could guess that I generally like it. Minimalist shows constraint and self-control. Design is personal, so you’ve got to find your way through this one. I’m not sure though if the tree concept matches your tag line and photo graphic. There may be something more distinctive that emerges that is more fitting to you. You may try something simple like a type treatment that melds well w/ the groovey photo collage of yourself. Let it brew, I’m sure something will emerge if you decide to make a change.

Hi Christy — I feel famous that you stopped by! Thanks very much. And thanks, too, for the easy meme.
And Sam…You’re in now. What a complete dork I am. Maybe ADD? Bright and shiny distractions on my monitor. Your blog is terrific and you make me laugh LOUDLY. Sorry for screwing the tag thing up.
Hey Cooper — Yes, I used to tell my students that commas were blessed by the English gods, but they didn’t believe me. On second thought, I think my pets could be recycled people I’ve known. You know — I didn’t even think to mention reincarnation….Hmmm And the 30 minutes thing is a bit strange. I chalk it up to people having more than one window open and forgetting about it. I hope. Eww…
BeckEye — I think the contrast is what I was shooting for. Thanks. I mean — it’s what matters most in life — yah know?
Hi Phil, I’ll keep thinking on it. Who knows what Photoshop will come up with. Maybe I’ll end up like Dooce and change it out every month. That would be a breeze at this point — NOT. Something to think about.

Congrats on the weight loss! How do you do it with the stuff you have on your food blog? I am attempting the cheese souffle in a day or so. When I pull my deflated pile of slimy cheese from my oven, then will you agree to make me one and mail it?
Paris in jail makes me chuckle. Not laugh out loud…..because that would be allowing her to spice up my “mundane” life. Gag.
I like the tree. It is nice….but I don’t think it fits you. I say, it is pretty cool, but keep your eye out for something that really says Kelly, y’know?

Alright, I’ll do the meme today… and as for the banner - I design my own sites!
Glad you like it!

Kelly,
Grats on the ten “lubs.” When you say your VBF ditched you, are you saying she started out on this plan with you, and has since quit? Outrageous!
Down with Paris Hilton and all that she represents. Burn Hollywood, burn.
You want feedback on your header? I think it would be enhanced if you could somehow show yourself sitting on the bench…

Hi Mel — You’re back. Can’t wait to see what all the hullaballoo was about mascara and jeans…Bahahha!
Thanks for chiming in on the tree. And I PROMISE the souffle will come out. Your kids will love it! Put fushia food coloring in it to celebrate all that flamin’ hair you guys have going on. And make sure there’s a picture we can all ooooo and ahhhhh over.
OMG — laketree…Twin blogs — not twin humans. No way ray! No equipment to go there any longer thank goodness. Having two 17 mos apart was challenging enough — but they’re big guys now. My “baby” is almost 15! Twin BLOGS :-)

Alrightee then Sam — I’ve redeemed myself. Whew!
And Dave — Yes, she is sans phoodplan due to exhorbitant amounts of work and stress. *sigh* If was more fun with her. Me on the bench? Sheesh. You don’t ask for much, do you? Maybe the silhouette of a calm body with a Warhol head? Hmmm….I may be on to something. Cool. Okay — your meme’s up next.

The green and blue remind me of the color our room was back when we lived on that busy street where our cats were always getting hit by speeding cars. In fact, everything in the room was green and blue, the furniture, the contact paper on top of the dresser, the paper lantern, and the smiley face pillows. I don’t remember what the bedspread looked like though.
21kellypea
wrote on 10 May 2007 at 19:41
Well I remember the bedspread. But you forgot the curtains that were make out of blue and green bed sheets. The bedspread started out white — it was Mom’s and she dyed it a sort of raspberry color. Really. Can’t remember what happened after we got the blue and green shag rug. I think the wall ended up a sort of green color, too. It’s when I learned what chartreuse was.
So is that good or bad for the tree and the bench up there?

Hi Kim, And absolutely no big deal. It got a great laugh out of me. No — no super mum here, although I probably fit the bill at one time
I’m retired from Supermum-ness and am just average around the edges.
